The City of Tampa's Water Department is seeking your help if you see water use violators by calling the Water Use Violation hotline at (813) 274-8036 and leaving a message with the address, date and time. The Water Department has already stepped up their efforts for enforcement and giving citations due to the severity of the drought. All city employees out in the field have also been asked to be the eyes and report violators.

Residents and businesses inside the city limits are restricted to the following:

Irrigation Restrictions:

(Violating these restrictions may result in a fine of up to $500 and a mandatory court appearance!)

  • Addresses ending in an even number, or the letter A-M, may water on Tuesdays only.
  • Addresses ending in an odd number, or the letter N-Z, may water on Sundays only.
  • Watering on the designated day is allowed between midnight and 8 a.m. or 6 p.m. and midnight.

Low-volume hand watering (a hose fitted with an automatic shut-off nozzle) and low-volume irrigation of new and established non-lawn landscaping is not restricted to a specific day or time. However, low-volume hand watering of lawn areas is restricted to the designated day and time for the address.

Watering with reclaimed water is not restricted however it should still be used in an efficient manner.

Other Restrictions:

Personal vehicle washing is not restricted. However, a hose fitted with an automatic shut-off nozzle must be used.

Charity and fundraising carwashes are prohibited unless held on the premises of a commercial car washing facility which recycles water. The car washing performed by the charitable or fundraising group must recycle its water through the same operation as used by the commercial car washing facility

Pressure washing of buildings, sidewalks, driveways, patios and other non-pervious areas is not allowed.
Pressure washing in preparation for painting or other necessary maintenance is not restricted.

Water use for outdoor recreation where the water runs continuously, except for recreational facilities and businesses using recirculating water, is prohibited.

The filling of swimming pools not using a filter and recirculating system is prohibited.

Outdoor aesthetic uses of water, such as decorative water fountains and features are prohibited unless they are recirculating and provide a necessary water quality benefit or use reclaimed water.
All wasteful and unnecessary water use is prohibited.

A recorded summary of water use restrictions is available on the Water Conservation Hotline at (813)274-8032.
