Join the Parade for ALL Boaters:
It's been ten years since we started our Annual Holiday Boat Parade tradition. Join us this year in making our 10th Annual Parade the best one yet!!
We start at Lowry Park, at the Boat Ramp. Please have your boat in the water no later than 6:00 p.m. We expect many boats, so come early.
We invite you to be a part of the 10th Annual Hillsborough River Holiday Boat Parade. A celebration of living in a city on a tropical river, the Holiday Boat Parade is a community event organized by Friends of the River for everyone to be a part of.
Whether you have a power boat, canoe, kayak, jon boat - anything that floats - decorate your boat and join the fun.
If you don't know anyone with a boat, you can watch the parade from the river bank along Lowry Park up to its terminus at the Harbor Club at Nebraska Ave. The Sulphur Springs park between I-275 & the city pool park has a nice long shoreline with plenty of convenient parking.
Tell EPC to Clean Up River & Bay 12/9
December 9th is a critical day to clean up Tampa Bay & our county's rivers
and lakes, including the impaired Lower Hillsborough. Harmful algae blooms fed
by rainy season fertilizer run-off make most Hillsborough County waterways sick.
The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners will meet as the Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) Wednesday December 9th for an open public workshop on fertilizer management relating to a proposed fertilizer ordinance.
Presentations by staff and stakeholders will be followed by your public comment. Even if you choose to not speak, you can help by bearing silent witness - neon stickers will be provided that read: "STOP nitrogen & phosphorus pollution with a strong fertilizer ordinance".
The fertilizer & landscape industry will be out in force that day to protect their right to needlessly fertilize in the rainy season. A big turnout of people from the community who care about our healthy waterways is needed to help move our county to manage Nitrogen & Phosphorus runoff in residential fertilizer, a major uncontrolled factor in making many county waterways sick - the Hillsborough is one of the worst, but it's not alone - the list of sick waterways is very long.
Meeting Date: Wednesday, December 9th, 2009
Location: Hillsborough County Center, 2nd floor Boardroom
601 E. Kennedy Blvd., downtown Tampa
Time: 2:00 - 5:00 pm
P.S. You're invited to stay in the area that night, Dec. 9th, for the Sierra Club's Holiday Party, 7:00 pm at Latam At the Centro 1913 N Nebraska Ave. (corner of Palm & Nebraska). All participants in the EPC workshop will receive special recognition by Sierra Club for your support for cleaning up our county's waterways!
